Block and Bellhousing ID

59A Pattern

The 1932-1948 Ford V8

This bolt pattern is common to the 32-48 blocks and the V860. The FH 6 used a plate and bellhousing that had a very similar appreance but is not interchangable.

8BA Pattern

1949-1953 Ford V8

the crank bolt pattern remained the same but the ring gear location changes. This is not the same as any of the FH I6 or 337 Lincoln V8.

Ford v860 (oil pan removed)

Bolt pattern is the same as the 59A but the crank bolt pattern and starter position are different.

Bellhousings

These are the stock bellhousings used on the 1949-1953 Ford truck (cast iron) and the 1949-1953 Mercury (stamped steel). These "convert" the 8BA block to the 59A bolt pattern. The use of the correct starter plate is critical to the function of these bellhousings.

This is the bellhousing from the 46 and up Ford truck 4 speed. This bellhousing can be used with the an adapter plate to put a number of different transmissions on to the 59A block or with the 8RT bellhousing to adapt various transmissions to the 8BA block. We have made adapters for the GM "Muncie" pattern transmissions including the T5 (FHT-350 BHA), the Ford T5 (FHT-FT5 BHA), the 64-78 Ford top loader (FHT-FTL BHA).

8BA Bells

This is the most common of the Ford 8BA bellhousings and used a stamped steel fork and shares the bolt pattern with the 49-64 Ford car transmissions. This can be used with the 1964 and up Ford Top Loader with the 1 1/16" input shaft and bearing retainer. We make adapter plates for this bell to go to the GM pattern (292-350MT BHA) and to the Ford T5 (292-FT5 BHA).

This is another of the 8BA bellhousings and used cross shaft and fork and shares the bolt pattern with the 49-64 Ford car transmissions. This can be used with the 1964 and up Ford Top Loader with the 1 3/8" input shaft and bearing retainer. We make adapter plates for this bell to go to the GM pattern (292-350MT BHA) and to the Ford T5 (292-FT5 BHA).

There are several other stock Ford bellhousings;

This is from a heavy truck, has mounting "ears" and is too deep for use with the Top Loader but can use the Ford T5 with some modifications.

Here are a couple of Ford FH bellhousings that are not common.

On the left is the Lincoln/Ford 337 c.i. block plate and on the right is the FH I6 plate and bell.
